All-new system for IMAGERUNNER Advance
Canon has crafted an all-new system and hardware platform, and an easy-to-use customizable interface for the latest addition to its imageRunner line. The imageRunner Advance C9075/C9065 models suit high-volume, colour quick-printing environments and come standard with Canon’s ultra-fast rendering technology, optional Adobe PS3 and PCL capabilities, and reproduce images at a true 1,200 x 1,200 dpi. As for speed, the C9075 prints 75 letter-size ppm in black and white and 70 ppm in colour, while the C9065 prints 65 letter-size ppm in both modes. A single-pass duplex document feeder allows both units to scan up to 200 images per minute on black-and-white, two-sided and letter-size documents and optional hardware accessories can increase paper capacity to 9,300 sheets.www.canon.com
New systems from Fuji Xerox use AE toner
From the heads up department: Fuji Xerox is ringing in 2010 with the launch of two new colour on-demand publishing systems: the Color 1000 and Color 800 presses. Designed to expand the scope of applications in variable printing, the models are the first high-end printers to employ Xerox’s Emulsion Aggregation-Eco Toner for improved image quality, while the optional use of clear toner with the 1000 permits glossy finishing and watermark printing. The 1000, meanwhile, spits out 100 ppm (80 ppm for the 800) and both handle paper weights between 55 and 350 gsm. Finally, the machines’ long-life overcoat photoreceptor should improve damage and wear resistance. The machines will likely be rolled out in Asian markets first; no word yet on when they’re expected to hit North America.

ES Connect delivers Dalim integration
Enabling preflighting and normalization is the end goal for Dalim Software’s ES Connect, the latest add-on to ES Core, the backbone of its customer-facing online file delivery and approval environment. ES Connect does just that, fostering the integration of Dalim Twist and Mistral workflows into the ES Core. With ES Connect, for example, PDF files uploaded for approval by multiple users can be automatically checked for correct technical specs before the regular approval cycle begins. The detailed report generated by Twist becomes accessible through the add-on’s user interface.www.dalim.com
Mimaki makes sublime addition
Building on its award-winning solvent superwide JV5-320S, Mimaki Engineering
introduces the JV5-320DS. This new large-format, direct and dye-sublimation device prints directly on polyester substrates up to 3.2 m wide. Outdoor signage printed on polyester textiles, using water-based dye-sublimation inks, is an ideal application for the new machine, which reaches a resolution of up to 1,440 dpi, while speeds vary from 60.3 sq. m per hour at 540 x 720 dpi to 44 sq. m per hour at 540 x 1,080 dpi. An ink catcher prevents fabric stains, and a fan dries inks directly after printing so that media won’t stick during the winding process.

Aiming to further open up communication between printing companies, PagePathTechnologies is taking a cue from the Facebooks of the world to launch printing-centric social network IdeaExchange. Web-based IdeaExchange is intended to help PagePath’s MyOrderDesk users and other printers and marketers share their thoughts, suggestions and challenges on the day-to-day operation of their businesses. Post questions to organized forums, search for solutions to problems and other information, gab with your peers and even post blog items and profiles. Looking to reach out? Sign up at Durst feels the need for large-format inkjet speed
Durst is revamping its product lineup. It enters the superwide imaging segment with
the 5 m Rho 500R UV inkjet printer incorporating the latest iteration of the Quadro 30D Array print head technology. The number of nozzles per colour doubles to 2,048, ink temperature is accurately regulated at the nozzle, and a point-drop-setting ink regulation system is included. The Rho 500R prints 6-colour, 600 dpi images on vinyl, mesh and other superwide roll media at speeds up to 4,300 sq. ft. per hour. It also is able to print three independent images from three separate job queues on three different 1.6 m rolls all at the same time.

Durst has also juiced up its Rho 800 Presto large-format UV inkjet printer. Rho 800HS is a new high-speed version that, like its predecessor, has a continuous board printing system and the capability to print on multiple narrow boards up to 2.7"ʺ thick. What’s new is its use of Durst’s Quadro 30D array print-head technology that doubles the number of nozzles per colour to 2,084, regulates ink temperature and regulates iMnk flow to raise output by roughly 80%. This 98"-wide printer can also turn out speeds of up to 2,000 sq. ft. per hour or 1,200 sq. ft. per hour in two-pass mode.
