Creativity is simple with new Ilumina 3D from Xanté For small to mid-sized shops that want to do special-effects printing, Xanté’s new Ilumina 3D prints on lenticular media. Powered by lenticular software manufacturer ProMajic, the Ilumina produces effects such as 3D and 3D Flip. It prints 8 lenses per minute 12.9" x 19" at resolutions of 1,200 x 1,200 dpi. Xanté also supplies the lenticular media, Myriad Digital Lens, with 75 lpi. HP introduces its flatbed UV Scitex FB950 press with billboard mode that reaches print speeds up to 42 sq. m per hour at 600 x 300 dpi, and 21.1 sq. m per hour at 600 x 600 dpi. Also well-suited to POP displays, and indoor/outdoor signage, the press has dimensions of 160" x 48" x 61".

Scitex FB950 produces double-sided and full-bleed prints, and prints
multiple copies on up to six sheets of rigid media. The Scitex will be available early this year.

Family-owned Prisme Technologies has expanded its web-to-print PrintSYS business-to-business management tool, with a business-to-customer (B2C) extension. Distributed by Xerox Canada, the B2C service is pay-as-you-go, so customers can personalize, approve, and pay for their printed products online with a customized virtual storefront. It requires no software installation or licensing, and there are hundreds of templates for clients to choose from. The price tag is $19,000 and 60 printers in Canada are currently using it.

From Fujifilm comes the Acuity Advance UV flatbed printer, 40% faster than previous models, and quick, at print speeds of 236 sq. ft. per hour. It has a print area of 1.25 m x 2.5 m and handles substrates up to 48 mm thick. Its zoned vacuum table accommodates even irregular and unbalanced media, and each print head produces variable size droplets instead of the usual fixed droplets, as fine as six picolitres. A roll-to-roll module is also offered for printing on a range of flexible media.

New PrintSmart publication inks from Sun Chemical are designed for printers that do magazine, coupon, and advertising insert work. The line contains four families of heatset inks, including SunMag for ad inserts and catalogues, and SunUltra, for book and commercial jobs. SunNews, for uncoated newsprint, and SunOne, for various heatset applications, round out the line.
Sun Chemical has also created a new coating ideal for POP, commercial, and sheetfed packaging printers. Rycoline’s Diamond Coat Soft Touch feels like leather, and provides a matte look. It is applied in-line through the aqueous coating tower, and as long as a UV matte coating is used, no offline treatment is required. Soft Touch has no VOCs and a viscosity of 18-22 seconds.
