Texture from Monadnock studies screening process
The latest brochure in Monadnock Paper Mills’ Edge series is Texture, a study of screening processes showcasing colour on Monadnock Astrolite Smooth, the company’s most popular finish. The cover is Astrolite Silk 100 lb. cover and the text is Astrolite Smooth 65 lb. cover. Texture features a series of portraits by Hugh Arnold in which unusual hair arrangements are juxtaposed against background images of natural fibres and plants. The DocuCheck Ghost is a new artificial watermark product in Appleton’s line of cheque security papers. It combines overt and covert security features for simple and immediate authentication. The “protected document” ghosted artificial watermark is highly visible in normal light and is readily illuminant under black light. An additional security feature is Appleton’s PenTick Plus authentication. The swiper pen is a proprietary marker that reacts to the paper properties and creates a distinct authenticating mark that disappears in seconds. Weyerhaeuser’s 2006 nature calendar is printed on 80 lb. Cougar text and 80 lb. cover weights, now made with 10% recycled content. Printing was done at 175-line screen on a six-colour Komori press and four-colour process, utilizing a combination of conventional and flourescent inks and a dot-for-dot dull varnish. Dear: is the latest promotion for the Strathmore Writing System from Mohawk Fine Papers. The 24-page book bursts with print samples appropriate for identity applications, including engraving, embossing, letterpress and foil stamping, as well as advice and words of encouragement for letter writing. Its substrates are suitable for executive suites corporate in-plant print shops. In other news, Strathmore Writing 25% cotton fibre paper is now part of Mohawk’s windpower portfolio. Strathmore offers a range of cotton content and the option of 30% postconsumer content made with renewable, non-polluting, wind-generated electricity.Gusto boosts brightness
Stora Enso is increasing the brightness level of Gusto, a sheetfed coated fine paper made in gloss and satin finishes, to 90. Gusto is acid-free, of archival quality and designed with side-to-side surface uniformity for superior print gloss and smoothness. The paper is made with elemental chlorine free pulp, and its fibre comes from sustainable forests, most of which comply with standards from the American Forest and Paper Association’s sustainable forestry initiative, the Forest Stewardship Council, and the Canadian Standards Association in the U.S. and Canada.
Neenah makes a better envelope with new translucent papers
Neenah’s new UV/Ultra Web+Plus translucent papers get equal billing with the UV/Ultra II translucent stocks in a recently released swatchbook chalk full of foil stamping, blind embossing and four-colour process on both paper substrates. The new UV/Ultra Web+Plus papers come in six envelope sizes in a 30 lb. weight: A2, A6, A7, A8, A10, #10 commercial and #10 square flap. The paper also features folding and scoring properties, and has increased burst and tear strength to withstand the rigors of web offset printing and high continuous speeds. Other characteristics include minimal dot gain, curl resistance and a hard, uniform surface.
