UniSet SA ready for beer bottles
Hot on the heels of Stora Enso’s NovaSet wine labels comes the launch of UniSet SA, the company’s eighth and newest beer label offering. Marketed as a cheaper alternative to film pressure-sensitive labels, the wet strength pressure-sensitive paper label has a high level of rigidity for clean release from liner substrates. It was designed for complex white and metalized label designs often used on beer bottles.

RIP maker develops TotalProof colour proofing media
Xitron, maker of raster image processors and RIP management software, has developed new paper media for commercial colour proofing. The papers are meant to emulate press output on various kinds of coated and uncoated stock. TotalProof X1 Media is semi-gloss inkjet paper designed for colour-critical proofs. The X2 brand is a more general-purpose inkjet paper stock designed for imposition proofs and other applications where colour matching is less important, or where the output might be laminated. The product comes with custom colour profiles and is available throughout North America.

A new Hue for Mohawk
Touting itself as a vibrant, colourful option for flyers and direct mail, Mohawk’s new Britehue swatchbook offers samples of its 60 text and 65 cover semi-vellum finish, and its 20 lb. smooth finish papers across 17 colours. The acid-free papers are laser guaranteed, with 10 of the 17 colours containing 30% post-consumer waste fibre.

Lighter paper for bigger mags
Stora Enso has developed a lightweight, coated web paper that offers the brightness, caliper and opacity of a coated freesheet that is 4 to 5 lbs. heavier. NovaPress Advantage is produced in glass and silk finishes, and in basis weights ranging from 36 to 50 lbs. A recycled option is also available.

Matching tech with stock
International Paper has updated its Digital Imaging Papers Source Guide. The guide now rates each of the company’s digital paper brands against 18 common digital presses made by Xerox, Ikon, Canon, Heidelberg, Kodak, Konica Minolta and Ricoh. The papers—which include the Accent Opaque, Carolina, Hammermill, Springhill and Williamsburg brands—get a “recommended,” “suitable” or “not applicable” rating for each machine. The guide is available for free through the company’s website.
